One of the leading occasions on Perth's social calendar, the annual dinner of the Perth Burns Club, was held in the Salutation Hotel, Perth on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
Once again the event lived up to its reputation of being one of the country's foremost mixed Burns Nights and the record attendance of 175 members and guests enjoyed an excellent evening of speeches and entertainment.
Among the distinguished company at the top table were Provost John Hulbert and Mrs Sara Hulbert who were attending as part of the Perth 800 celebrations.

The principal speaker was Professor Robert Crawford of St Andrews, author of The Bard � the highly acclaimed biography of Robert
Burns which was recently awarded the Saltire Society's literary award as "Scotland's Book of 2009".
Professor Crawford's captivating and thought-provoking Immortal Memory fully deserved the prolonged standing ovation which it received from the appreciative gathering.

A light hearted toast to The Lasses was proposed by Brian McGregor of Falkirk and received an entertaining and witty reply from
the well-known actress Lesley Mackie.

"Hornpipes, jigs, strathspeys and reels". Fiddle selections were given by Stella Wilkie.
The entertainment was of the accustomed high standard. Stella Wilkie and her accompanist Joan Blue gave selections of Burns and Niel Gow fiddle music with the Gow selection being played on Gow�s own fiddle. A varied selection of Burns airs were delightfully sung by baritone Craig Dennis and soprano Nicola Cowmeadow. An added attraction was two Burns songs sung by Perth High School pupil Hannah Holmes, winner of the senior solo singing award at the Perth Burns Club�s Schools Festival last November. The accompanist for the singers was Martin Neilson.

Perth High School pupil Hannah Holmes delighted the company with two songs. Hannah won the senior singing award at the club's 2009 Schools Festival.
"In harmony's enchanting notes". Martin Neilson was the accompanist to the singers for the 32nd consecutive year.
"Each in its cauld hand held a light". Donald Paton telling the tale of Tam o' Shanter.
"Lord, hear my earnest cry and pray'r". Club secretary Donald Paton appeared in costume for Holy Willie's Prayer.
The satire of "Holy Willie's Prayer" and the dramatic tale of "Tam o' Shanter" were performed by Donald Paton.
"Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face". The President addressing the haggis.
"He screw'd the pipes and gart them skirl". The piper for the evening was Robert Hamilton.
The piper was Robert Hamilton and the evening was under the chairmanship of the club president, Dr Donald F. Macgregor who also addressed the haggis and proposed the Loyal Toast.
The Rev Geoffrey Hall gave the Selkirk Grace and Greetings from Kindred Clubs and Caledonian Societies were read by the club secretary, Donald Paton.
Following a vote of thanks to the speakers and artistes by vice-president Dr John Davidson this memorable evening ended with the traditional singing of "Auld Lang Syne".
